Sugarcreek

Ohio's Little Switzerland

Sugarcreek blends Swiss heritage with Amish Country charm: clock tower, festivals, and Ohio's Little Switzerland downtown.

Worth the drive for shopping, ice cream, and furniture along Main Street.

Winesburg

Hilltop village · Est. 1829

Winesburg sits on a hill crest in northeastern Holmes County, a quiet Amish Country crossroads along U.S. Route 62. Founded in 1829 and named for Weinsberg, Germany, the village has kept its small-town pace for nearly two centuries.

Main Street runs through town with farmland rolling off both sides. Millersburg is about 13 miles southwest. A slow drive from Timbercrest is worth it for the views and the welcome sign that greets you at the crest.

Fun fact: this is not the setting of Sherwood Anderson's novel Winesburg, Ohio. That book's town is fictional. This one is real, and much quieter.

Mount Hope

Auctions & flea market

Mount Hope is working Amish Country: weekly livestock and flea market auctions every Wednesday, horse and machinery sales, and horse-and-buggy traffic through town.

Kidron

Swiss heritage · Est. 1819

Kidron sits in southwestern Sugar Creek Township, Wayne County, a short drive from Timbercrest and right next to Mount Hope auction country.

Swiss Mennonites settled here in 1819, fleeing religious persecution and hard farming in the Sonnenberg region of Switzerland. They first called the place Sonnenberg; the name Kidron came later. In Switzerland they were known as die Stillen im Lande, the quiet people in the country. That still fits.

Plan a morning for the flea market, then wander the back roads. Horse-and-buggy traffic and rolling farmland are part of everyday life here.

Charm

Village on State Route 557

Charm is an unincorporated village in northwestern Clark Township, Holmes County, tucked along State Route 557 in rolling Amish Country hills.

Shops, crafts, and quiet back roads draw visitors for a slow afternoon from Timbercrest. Baby Swiss cheese was developed just outside Charm in the 1960s by the Guggisberg Cheese Company, and the village still carries that small-town, handmade feel.

Walnut Creek

Victorian village · Est. 1826

Walnut Creek is a census-designated place in central Walnut Creek Township, Holmes County, sitting on a ridge between Goose Creek and Walnut Creek. State Routes 39 and 515 meet here, about 11 miles east of Millersburg.

Laid out in 1826 as New Carlisle, the village took the name Walnut Creek when its post office opened in 1841. Today it is one of Amish Country's most visited stops.

Since the 1990s the business district has been styled as an American-Victorian village: wraparound porches, rocking chairs, wide sidewalks, and a walkable six-block center built for a slower pace. Bakeries, orchards, chocolate, and country dining make it a guest favorite from Timbercrest.
